253/365 Byron Tears

Looking from Clarkes Beach back to Main Beach. Byron Bay.

11am this morning.

Reflecting on the past few days... It is just so so so very beautiful. And so hard to correlate the surroundings and the story; with the knowledge that someone lost their life in such a tragic way in a place so pure and perfect. Feeling the sadness. And the awe. Mother nature is bigger than all of us. x

It's a Dog's Life

11am | Tallows Beach. Byron Bay.

Boston had a great day.
Man this dog LOVES the beach. Big time. Loves it till his bones ache. And I love him 'til mine do too...

Do you have a dog?

Sunday at Wategos Beach

Sunday at Wategos.

A good Byron beach weekend recipe: Breakfasty-brunch. Friends. Coffee Van. Kayaks. Watching our salty, sandy kids play. Ahhhhhh...

Rinse and repeat.

How did you spend your weekend?

The Simple Extravagance of Nature | A Byron Bay Sunset

T said he needed to walk on the beach.

Too much screen time up my sleeves - I readily agreed. We bundled our boys straight from the school bus and into Byron. They said The Pass.

We parked at the top of the hill and walked the track down. The trees closing in on us brought an early darkness that spilt us out at the bottom onto the sand and the most sublime sunset.

Ohhhhhh...

T walked.
The boys ran.
And I was lost in light and colour.

The sun set over the water, the sky blending from a golden yellow to fiery burnt orange and when it finally dipped completely beneath the craggy mountainscape of Mt Warning and I didn't think it could get more beautiful a wave of pink swept in from the right; it swept right around from Wategos beach and.. it turned everything into magic.

{ You can actually watch a video I posted on instagram that night if you like - turn off the sound; it was windy! }

Oh,
Mother Nature you are just SO sublime.
So heartbreakingly beautiful.

I am still in awe of the amazing theatre of colour that danced around me that night. These are the moments that stop us. That keep our eyes open and our hearts singing. That fill us up with reserves of bliss and gratitude for life. The extravagances of a life lived simply.

Where do you go to find your bliss? What fills you up and keeps you going? Please share :)

177/365 Dolphin Kayaking

I often park near these kayaks when I drive to the beach in Byron. And I always think to photograph them because they remind me of the layered rainbow ice blocks I loved as a kid. Were they called Rockets??

But it's been a long time since I went out Dolphin Kayaking. And, I think I might have to change that soon! When the water warms up. Early Summer. It's a date. Who wants to come with me?

173/365 Burnt-Orange Perfection aka A Byron Sunset

If you follow my instagram you would have seen the amazing pink sunset that Byron turned on last night [ I shot a very windy but very pretty video from The Pass ].

But before the sky turned pink - it looked like THIS. Ahhhhhh, mother nature just blows my mind sometimes!!

Wild, rugged, burnt-orange perfection.

Yeah, it's a Wednesday. Hahaha. I love that there are surfers out no matter the time, the day, the weather :) These two made me smile!

162/365 Dig It!

Occasionally I just don't get a shot.

Today, I was busy putting the finishing touches on something special - cross your fingers pretty please! If it works out it will be a very exciting opportunity for me and for this blog (!) - and time just slipped away. No photo. So instead of dragging my pyjama-ed-self off the couch and taking one right now I'm just going to share a photo from Saturday that I love. T and his world-o-sand :) Dig it.

3:45pm | Tallows Beach. Byron Bay.

158/365 I Am In Love With This World...

"I am in love with this world . . .

I have climbed its mountains,
roamed its forests,
sailed its waters,
crossed its deserts,
felt the sting of its frosts,
the oppression of its heats,
the drench of its rains,
the fury of its winds,
and always have beauty and joy
waited upon my goings and comings".
- John Burroughs

Always.

What are your favourite moments in nature? Mine have to be family afternoons spent on empty beaches...

157/365 The Perfect Saturday.

Waking up sleepy Saturday.
No soccer. Bliss! T took Buster out for coffee, went to the farmer's market for our weekly stash and then came home to collect Kingsley and I.

Beach brunch time!
Destination Wategos.

The water was turquoise and the surfers were in force. But the thing we loved the most was watching the kayakers - because - they weren't going anywhere. Which means just one fabulous thing (well, two!) that there are dolphins or whales in the bay. Ahhhhhh... it was dolphins!

After hovering out there in the deep for what felt like almost an hour they came in to land.

Meanwhile, we ate. And played handball. And the boys swam and we all followed the golden rim of sand to Little Wategos beach. I walked back via the track and stopped in awe at the beauty unfolding below me.

Such a lovely way to start a long weekend.
I want more days like this...

154/365 Byron Bay in Vivid Colour

Some days I don't want to have to choose just one image for #photoaday2014...

So - seeing that I make the rules here ;) hahaha - today, there are two :)

I took the first one at Clarkes Beach in Byron about 9am this morning. The second, in the park by Main Beach about 3pm.

Which would you have chosen if you had to choose just one?
