242/365 Old Dogs Are The Best Dogs

Boston Bosley.

Doing his favourite thing ever. Which is pretty much just doing whatever we want to do :) As long as it involves going somewhere. Or food. Or love.

Have you read the love letter I wrote for him yet? Yeah, I write love letters to my dog. Don't you?! ;)

Bossy will be fourteen next month. And we will be partying. Well, we WILL be party-ing but it will be a day late. I just realised that we'll actually be away on his actual birthday { Oct 2 } #whoops so shhhhhhh, don't tell him the date ;) But fourteen is a great age for this old fellow and he deserves to be spoilt.

Are you an animal person?
Amber. XO

This cheeky little fellow looked rather comfortable in the tree hollow, even when I moved in to take his close-up! Cutie.

124/365 Byron Bay Bliss

Overcast days are sometimes the most beautiful don't you think?

Especially at the beach.
Okay, the beach can steal your heart at any moment - but there is something about that bottle green, the pale sand... that speaks to the melancholy but also to the calm and the peaceful.
And then, these little sprites run into the frame!

Ahhh, sweet Byron bliss.

114/365 The Breakfast Club Diaries

I have joined a facebook group called The Breakfast Club Diaries.
The Breakfast Club Diaries is an invitation to you. The plan: Take a photo of a moment during an early morning walk and share it with the world.

The goal is simple. To document, share, explore and discover the uniqueness and diversity of the human experience within the global community, as seen through the lens of personal perception using digital imagery.

Born out of one's desire to capture a moment and the desire of another to experience it, this collaborative arts project has been created by visual artists Susan Gourley and Zoe Trap from Byron Bay, Australia.

Just remember: EARLY MORNING WALK is the key here. How you interpret this phrase is entirely up to you. We look forward to meeting you and viewing the world through your eyes.
I won't be posting a photo everyday - my own #photoaday2014 challenge is time consuming enough - but I think it's a wonderful idea. Especially if it gets me up and out into the world nice and early more regularly!

Who would like to join us? x

80/365 Cheeky Devils

Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart.

In my rush to get the boys and myself packed, ready and out the door early on Friday morning I - gasp - forgot to grab my charging-overnight camera battery... Eeeek. So, a day with no camera means (seeing that I'm the only one setting the rules to this #photoaday2014 challenge :) that I get to post a cute photo from last week in Tasmania. Look at these two cheeky devils!! This hall of the museum will stay in my mind for a long time because it was while we were in there that Hug voiced his personal decision to return to being vegetarian. Unlike his friend here, the Tasmanian Devil. They actually have a sample of Tassie Devil poo on display - the thing that looks just like a stick to the left of this image - but close up? Close up it is full of bones and echidna spikes and... teeth! #ouch :)

73/365 The Kangaroo Kid

First things first. I did not take this photo. But it IS my choice for today's #photoaday2014 :D

This is 10 year old Hug's work. I don't think I realised what an up-and-coming photographer I had on my hands until I saw this shot! Oh, to be 10 and so talented :)

Having travelled north from Hobart we are now staying in the Tamar Valley just outside of Launceston in a quirky little faux-Swiss-village called Grindelwald. We have out own little Swiss chalet (you can see a few more images on my instagram) and a run of animals at our doorstep; masses of wild rabbits, ducks and just on the other side of a little fence - kangaroos!

Hug has been asking to use my camera, and he's obviously got a natural eye for composition as well as the patience needed to capture great animal images. Now to find some kids photography competitions for him. Does anyone have any recommendations? x

53/365 Reunited

Flying down to Sydney this weekend meant I not only got to see my best friend after six months away and celebrate her 40th birthday with her (hopefully she will agree to have some party photos feature on the blog) but I also got to finally see my doggy!!!

Claire has been looking after Boston for the whole time we've been travelling. She's the best surrogate dog-mama ever :) I love these two.

It was very hard to leave him today but Lovely and Hug can't wait til they get to come visit next week and then he'll be home with us by the end of March. Hooray!

p.s. Boston has his very own facebook page! The Adventures of Boston Bosley. Give him some lurve. And if you're not already following the Rainbow Mama FB page please swing past there and LIKE it too. x

41/365 Hop to It!

I have spied these gorgeous wild rabbits out the front of my in-law's house before. But it's always a thrill! They're rather shy so I had to lie in the grass myself to capture these images. Late afternoon sunshine. Cotton-tailed bunny-bliss. x

12/365 Connection

You are a complex little man L.

But somehow you never cease to show me your beautiful soul, even in the midst of turmoil.

And I love you endlessly.

The Pantheon | Rome.

p.s. I've decided to commit to a photo-a-day for 2014. I'm starting here with number twelve but will add in the first eleven retrospectively. The tag for these photos will be photoaday2014 :) Please let me know what you think. x

Crocodile Kids

As promised, here is part 2 of yesterdays post: Rabbits and Wombats and Emus Oh My! (aka. the best birthday held anywhere on earth today :) set at Macadamia Castle

Time to get serious: dangerous animal handling!

Hello Mr Crocodile.
It's a pleasure to meet you.

This little fellow is a saltwater croc and yes, his mouth was closed with a little bit of tape for safety. He was much smoother than I would have imagined. With an almost velvety feel to the pads of his feet.

Smile!

Next up, we met this guy. He's a python (though sadly I can't remember which type).

The birthday girl was very confident.

Putt Putt golf in the rain. A nice antidote to wild animals.

Too old for a petit train? Never.

Finally, it was time for pancakes.

What's better than a triple-stack? Not much :)
Especially when they're gluten and dairy-free (buckwheat) pancakes. Hooray!

Hug was the self-proclaimed king of pancakes. Gone in less than 3 minutes. Really.
The rest of us were a little more civilised.

A lovely end to a beautiful day.
