Wow. Love this! The retro charm teamed with a seriously great idea. Oooozes cool in my books.

Now I wonder if we have a family member who can make a set of these for the boys for Christmas?! ;)

  1. Well I think you'll enjoy this post from my blog PlayGroundology - Popular Mechanics on the Playground Beat. Check it out and tell me what you think.

I like this idea too. Hmmm, I,m thinking my dad could help with a project like this.

  2. We made a set similar to these last year, only instead of the grooves for them to hook together, they are put together by the boys with nuts, bolts, and washers. We got the idea last year from an exhibit at the chicago Children's Museum, as they have a whole exhibit dedicated to structures. Our boys just loved the exhibit! if you want the specs my hubby used to make our set, I can send them to you. They can configure the set to be nearly any shape that they want it to be. We added some canvas tarps to ours with metal grommets so that the nuts, buts, and washers can hold them in place. There are pieces if they wish to do a solid roof construction, but we have found that it is a little too heavy and makes the structure a little too dark and smallish inside for them to both play in it at the same time. By using the tarp, it lets a little more light through and is more of a flattened off roof.
The measurements would not be in metric, but am sure that if you see the measurements, you could figure out the details in metric...

Please email me if you want the info.
Hope all is well! Am just getting caught up on reading blogs, as we have been on vacation.

  3. Rainbow Mama, I love the information you share. What a GREAT idea! The kids build and design it themselves, given the necessary tools. I hope someone starts such a company again. We're hoping to build an outdoor house with (and for) our kids in a year and a half.

I just want you to know I've added this site to my blog list at http://learningjourneyjournal.blogspot.com

Keep up the great work :) -- Glory
